Designed to support recycling in packaging applications

At the booth, BASF will present material solutions, product developments, and systems designed to support recycling in packaging applications. The company indicates it will highlight applications and concepts across several areas:

  • Polyamide packaging solutions, including Ultramid® Ccycled® for food and other sensitive applications, and Ultramid® H, described by BASF as a thermoplastic polyamide with high water permeability. View all Ultramid® grades by BASF>>
  • The biopolymer ecovio®, certified as home-compostable, for flexible and rigid packaging applications. BASF notes its use ranges from thin biaxially oriented films to high-barrier packaging for fast-moving consumer goods, with compatibility for organic or paper recycling.
  • Adhesive solutions intended to support recycling within existing infrastructures. These include water-based Epotal® laminating adhesives designed to enable easier material separation in PET-based multilayer packaging and to produce recyclates from mono-material films without substances such as primary aromatic amines (PAA). BASF will also present label adhesives such as acResin® for PET and glass bottles, and Acronal® RCF dispersions for paper and cardboard packaging.
  • Water-based Joncryl® resins for printing inks and barrier coatings, which BASF states are fully repulpable and compatible with current recycling processes for paper-based packaging. The company adds that the use of bio-based, mass-balanced, or chemically recycled materials can contribute to CO₂ reduction.

According to BASF, these solutions are intended to address requirements across the packaging value chain, including considerations related to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The portfolio includes options for different end-of-life pathways, such as organic and mechanical recycling, and targets applications in sectors including food, pet food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, non-food, and industrial goods.
