Attalon to quadruple precision coatings output at new Philadelphia facility

Attalon, Inc., an independent U.S.-based defense technology company delivering directed energy, optical, coating, and thermal solutions for mission-critical platforms, is expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint with an 80,000-sq.-ft. facility opening in Summer 2027. According to Attalon, formulators and engineers working with precision coatings and optical crystal materials can expect more than four times the company’s current Precision Coatings output once the site, which also becomes the company’s new headquarters, consolidates its domestic crystal-growth operations under one roof.

Attalon states that the expansion directly addresses the munitions shortage straining the U.S. defense supply chain.

Investing $30 million for high-tech manufacturing

Attalon, which reports more than a century of heritage in precision coatings, is scaling capacity to support high-volume, U.S.-based manufacturing of the coatings and materials used in guided weapons, munitions, and advanced tactical systems. The facility dedicates 60,000 sq. ft. to high-tech manufacturing space and, according to the company, will increase Attalon’s coating output by more than four times current capacity. Attalon says it is committing more than $30 million to the site and advanced equipment over the next decade to strengthen the domestic defense industrial base.

In addition to expanding coating operations, Attalon will consolidate its materials capabilities by transferring its crystal-growth operations to the new Philadelphia facility. This includes in-house growth of Potassium Nickel Sulfate (KNS), Calcium Fluoride (CaF₂), and UV glasses, materials used in a range of optical and infrared components for next-generation munitions and defense platforms.

A strong defense industry starts with making critical components here in America, and Pennsylvania is built to lead that effort,” said Senator Dave McCormick. “Attalon’s investment in Philadelphia will strengthen our supply chain, expand production of technology essential to next-generation guided munitions, and create good jobs for Pennsylvanians. At our Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit, leaders from defense, tech, and manufacturing are coming together because Pennsylvania has the talent, the innovation, and the manufacturing strength to help rebuild America’s defense industrial base. This is exactly the kind of investment that keeps our Commonwealth at the forefront of national security.

Advanced coatings are foundational to how modern munitions perform, and demand for precise, durable, and repeatable coatings and materials is now outpacing supply,” said John Bergeron, chief executive officer of Attalon. “This investment lets us scale our most sophisticated coating capabilities to meet that demand, pairing breakthrough performance with the production speed and U.S.-based manufacturing our customers need.

Attalon expects the facility to add more than 100 jobs over the next decade, including 65 positions in the near term as operations ramp. Attalon says the expansion is paired with a significant R&D focus, reflecting its continued investment in advanced coating, optical, and thermal technologies.
